The Innocent Merger
The rendezvous point was decided to be the IKEA in Atlantic Station located in Atlanta Georgia. Walking through IKEA is an experience that could last hours, depending on the purpose of the visit. Genius design from the Swedes combined with with quality and functionality is probably the reason they are so popular, and the reason why I will probably furnish 60% of my new place with their product.
There was an eclectic mix of nationalities and a broad range of ages. This made for a perfect people watching event while we waited to make an innocent merger with the others. This IKEA is probably the only reason I would have to be in Atlantic Station. . .I'm more of a Ponce/Virgina Highlands guy if I say so myself. This analogy will explain it. Atlantic Station is to its pretty unlikely you will see me their as Midtown is to there is a good chance you will bump into me.
We headed over to Centennial Olympic Park and caught the tail end of the parade. . .not too exciting. A couple of laps around the park searching for a frozen refreshment and we decide on a $4 Lemonade. There was a stage that no less than 50 people were occupying and were accompanied with numerous, annoying sound checks. We had no idea who was on the bill but live music in the park is always good so we sit and wait. After an hour or so of enjoyable people watching and debating the unimportant, a local funk/rock band that couldn't grab any one's attention takes the stage. For an opening act they weren't that bad. The Air Force band and all of their covers seemed to be a crowd pleaser, too bad I don't like Fergie or Rascal Flatts.
After we learned who the opening act was I decided to call it a night. I was exhausted and the only one who had to work the next morning. I knew if I stayed any longer I wouldn't be able to resist having a few drinks and staying out until morning with the best bet being heading directly to work...it has happened before. This weekend, I hope, will be more eventful and enjoyable with my brother being in town.
This night concluded with Science of Sleep with director and star commentary instead of the televised fireworks. Even though there was fireworks show about a mile away and it sounded as though someone was break dancing on the roof, I fell asleep without a problem.
