The Epitome of Nothing

The Epitome of Nothing

I hate it when sentences begin with 'so'.

So I'm watching 'the scariest comedy of all time', Young Frankenstein directed by the legendary Mel Brooks starring Gene Wilder, the original Willy Wonka. I am reminded of Reign Over Me with Sandy (Adam Sandler) and Don Cheadle, Mel Brooks movies can serve as a form of therapy. The characters in Reign go to a Brooks Marathon to 'get a dose of Mel'. Young Frankenstein is one of the more accessible Brooks films (it is constantly in rotation on AMC. . .with commercials) but it is in my opinion, not the greatest.

There is Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and one of my favorites Blazing Saddles. The Parody is his gift and Mel does it well. I now must go to Videodrome and let indecisiveness overcome me. I want to see Punch Drunk Love, or Primer.

Primer is a great independent film that is very hard to find. I watched it thrice, the second to figure it out and the third to enjoy it. Its a classic!

Punch Drunk Love I want to see again because of Sandy, but more than that because of the score. Jon Brion, who is a good friend of Gondry and scored Spotless and Science of Sleep, also worked with Kanye West on Late Registration giving it a masterful feel. The score in Punch is accompanied with visual interludes that are also appealing.

The funniest scene in Punch is the confrontation between PSH, if you didn't know Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Sandy. "That's that!" I'm on my way to purchase it. . .and take it on the chin.

Oh yeah, CoCoRosie is the epitome of. . .nothing. The music is on another level. Werewolf and Raphael take you away, Japan makes you think and everything else makes you wonder. Very Indie Progressive in my book. 'Don't speak, I can hear you"

So, I was invited to my birthday party...
