The Broken Protocol

The Broken Protocol

I was watching So You Think You Can Dance last night -strike one- and I said to myself, "that's a very nice dress Cat Deely is wearing". -strike two-

I'm not out so to speak, but I'm not in either. I'm a very heterosexual male. I'm also not homophobic which is why I can enjoy shows like Project Runway, What Not To Wear, and the above mentioned So You Think You Can Dance (I think Dominic Sandoval is going to win). I can shop at Express and not like the NFL. I can drink sake and other wines and not like beer. I can be a fan of Brad Pitt and David Beckham and I can spend an hour in the bathroom grooming and not think twice about it. I can moisturize and dance to Daft Punk and Justin Timberlake's Summer Love alone in my car, and I'm just as straight as the next fellow. . .metrosexual.

Well, I was having a promotion-celebration lunch today with my Aunt at Hooters. I'm sure every guy says or thinks that the server was flirting with them, hey its their job to flirt. There is a line and I'm no fool. . .but Sabrina was giving me some play. No my type. She was cute but a little too Southern Belle-ish for my tasty taste. My Aunt, who is pretty well off, asks me when I was last at Old Navy, (her husband and I share a similar fashion sense) which was only a few days ago returning a belt that was too big. She suggests we go and pick some things out for Brandon Todd, the Uncle, for their upcoming trip to Chattanooga.

Walking down the strip we talk about Express and how hard the men's stores are hard to find, how she wishes an H&M was in town and we talked about my style of dress. "Yeah, not everyone can wear Express, you have to have the build for it. Like you, you're slim. Oh, there is this place I want to take you to, they have nice things that you will look nice in so I think you will like [gay/they] clothes." After a pause I laughed loudly and sarcastically. She corrected herself and said "their clothes".

Even my own family.

Aside from that it was a very nice outing. We racked up her credit card and went on our own unexpected spree (not at Old Navy). I got some very nice shoes from PacSunthat I can't wait to wear after i do something about my legs, and a few shirts I am extremely proud about.

I'm breaking the male Protocol, I'm not a pioneer. There are others that came before me, but there is no me.

Menomena[!] and Hot Hot Heat[!] are oldies but goodies. The Jai-Alai Savant is simply amazing and Circa Survive is a little way better than I thought.

The Scopitonic Life

The Scopitonic Life

I finally found Punch Drunk Love. The Two Disc Special Edition was only $9.99 at Best Buy. The party scene, The Smell of Blood is relative to an even I attended Saturday night. A birthday party for myself and a family friend, in which I was invited to hours before the commencement.

A few members of my family were there and loads of the other Gemini's friends who I introduced myself to. . .awkwardly. The relation between my and Barry Egan's party were the comments that were made to him that led him to smash the sliding glass doors in his sister's house. Of course, most comments were about my weight because I didn't want to eat. I didn't smash anything, but I did attempt to make a smooth getaway, to no avail. The awkward introductions I had to make myself were no match to the uncomfortable parting. The anxiety.

The Bonus Feature disc in the Special Edition of Punch Drunk Love is exceptional. It brings together the elements that makes this one of my favorite. Jon Brion, Leslie Jones, Jeremy Blake and Paul Thomas Anderson bring their expertise together in shorts and features that are exquisite. Blossoms and Blood and the Scopitones are extremely artistic and are just what I explained in the previous post concerning the score and visual interludes. Sandy isn't half bad either.

I enjoyed a pretty lengthy conversation last night, although I do not enjoy speaking over the phone. I think I held it together quite well.

Bedroom Walls are nice. In Anticipation of Your Suicide has been in my mp3 player for quite a while, I just added a few more. 31 Knots has been there a while too. I added some Coheed & Cambria. Check out this video for Kanye West's new single. Just mute the audio and appreciate the visuals....the 'smoke and mirrors' if you will.

The Cycles Of Cycles

Wow, watching the season finale of House, a show I do not catch regularly, put things into perspective. In the midst of reluctantly closing another chapter in my life and moving on, I seem to find myself in the cycle of...cycles. Over the years in my young adulthood I have become less and less religious. The traditional routines of church going and praying regularly have been replaced with a Joel Osteen audio book every once in a while, but to the contrary, my faith remains.

This brings me to House. As far as I know I do not have any illness. I sometimes receive the comments regarding my thin stature though I'm not sure its an issue of health. Nonetheless, I have decided to make a concerted effort to gain a 'healthier' build. I've mentioned before that I do not 'enjoy' food. I do not have an eating disorder, it is just my appetite comes and even sooner goes.

In my effort to improve every aspect of my life in order for full enjoyment, I begin to ponder every aspect of the future. Since health is the topic at the moment, it is difficult to fathom being in the position of the families and friends of patients in the program House, or for that matter, myself in the hospital bed preparing farewells. Nothing I wish to look forward to.

As the cynical House looks up to the heavens after a 'miracle' it brings me to think of the cold single life that lay ahead. House, witty and great in re-diagnosing errors with his dry-erase board, is also a cold and lonely individual. I don't want to end up as such.

I believe 24 is old enough. I will soon be moving into the diverse midtown area plush with university students and a thriving creative scene. I can walk to the festivals and concerts, walk to the best Atlanta has to offer, and walk. I'm sure there is something out there for myself, to get involved in the community is the premiere step and I am well along my way with volunteer/writing opportunities. I'm already there in a sense.

There are numerous events I shall be attending solo, and that's just fine. Screen On The Green is a free in the park movie festival showing classics all month at sunset and then there is the Fox Summer Film Festival. Among about a dozen or so newer films, there will be a showing of Pan's Labyrinth and a double feature of The Departed and Goodfellas. I will definitely be in attendance at both!

The Bird And The Bee is all the indie music I have to offer at the moment. Still enjoying all that is already discovered. And re-discovering Van Hunt.

I miss you guys!
