The Becoming Tree
I'm a fan of the Silversun Pickups. The Becoming Tree is an image that appears on the front page of their site and somewhat resembles their Carnavas album cover. Actually, all of the artwork on their site is amazing - to me at least. [I've got a weird taste in everything by the way] And so I can waste energy and give the cliche metaphors of the tree; from the roots, and branches, and leaves, blah, blah, blah and compare then to my life - but I won't. Just check out the image, their link is on the right side of the page.
Carnavas is one of the classic albums in my opinion. Each song takes me away and I don't want them to end. I'd give anything to see a live performance. I'm not a groupie or jumping on the bandwagon, its just great music. [Yes, you introduced me to them] I was listening to the radio one morning, The New Morning X on 99.7 and they were interviewing Carson Daily. He says he found them on Pandora and fell in love with them. They actually played his Late Late Show for a few days.
I hope they stay Indie forever, whatever that means. There are tons of great Indie bands out there. There is a lot of great music out there, I love it. It gets me through this life. The distortion of Carnavas, the graphics and music is perfection to me. The hazy voice and lyrics, I'm in heaven just listening to this album, this song in particular. Dream At Tempo 119. I don't want that song to end, I don't want to wake up, I don't want to open my eyes, I don't want the dream to end. Its Great.
Dream At Tempo 119
I took my seat and stared
At the cardboard screen while no one cared
While the lights stayed on
The familiar buzz was now long gone
I just waited there
As the music soared into the air
As the lights went down
She said don't open your eyes
At tempo 119
They took to the crowd and aimed towards me
As the circle closed
I held onto the one with splintered clothes
Twenty years before
She said don't open your eyes and you can swim
All my friends ignored
She said don't open your eyes
Don’t open your eyes
And said goodnight
Don't open your eyes
And said goodnight
...
I couldn't end it there
As her wooden bones grew through her skin
Crumbled naturally
As her limbs and leaves had broken free
Twenty years before
She said don't open your eyes and you can swim
Wanted nothing more
She said don't open your eyes
Don’t open your eyes
And said goodnight
Don't open your eyes
And said goodnight
Awesome! 'I took my seat and stared...while no one cared'. When Brian says 'I couldn't end it there' I get a major adrenaline rush. These are my meds.
_Life happens. From the minor end of the spectrum; such as my link to the world, my Sidekick II Queened out on me, (Another One Bites The Dust...I apologize) I handled that and obtained another one through eBay. My windshield gets shattered and I BTO'd that (Bachman-Turner Overdrive...'Taking Care Of Business', that's the last one). I come home from work and take a nap. I wake up to go to Publix and I see a note under my windshield which looks like it just came back from Iraq, and ready for re-deployment. The letter reads: 'Please Contact So and So. Re: Your Windshield.' Re: Your Windshield? You don't f'ing say?_
_On to things on the major end of the life spectrum such as my freshly wounded heart and oh yeah, my mom and step-father are getting a divorce after 19 years of marriage. Peachy. But I'll bang it out, like CT always wants to do. I like the Bostonian dialect and slang. Good Will Hunting and Dignan (Whalberg) from The Departed. 'Hey, I forgot the password, but if you'd like to come down to the garage with me I'd be happy to give it to you.'_
She said don't open your eyes.
On to current events which I don't normally mention. It all comes down to why I love baseball. From little league to the majors. Recently was the anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier for all of professional sports. Players were given to wear the number 42, which is now retired and isn't allowed to be worn at all, in honor of Robinson.
Within the next couple of days the Virginia Tech Tragedy took place. The Washington Nationals played the Braves the following night and after the second inning, The Nationals all wore Virginia Tech Hokie caps. A great tribute and memorial for the victims, their families and friends and school. I thought that was cool.
